         Senior Athletic Awards

Congratulations Sean and Aubrey!
Sean Casella received the Outstanding Senior Award from Coach Corey Pelow for the boys team.
Aubrey Rowe received the Outstanding Senior Award from Coach Jeremy Souder for the girls team.
Aubrey Rowe was a CV nominee for the Travers Award for the girls along with Andrew "Bubba" Heisler for the boys.
Aubrey Rowe was a recipient of the PIAA District 3 "E. Jerry Brooks Award" for academic excellence.
Aubrey Rowe was honored with the CVHS Eagle Scholar Athlete Award for the girls, along with Patrick "Doc" DiPaola for the boys.

         2005 NISCA All-Americans

The 2005 Zone One NISCA Water Polo All-Americans have been announced. Congratulations to Justin Kassab, Aubrey Rowe, and Emily St Omer Roy for being recognized as All Americans.

         North East Zone Players

Congratulations to Callan Rowe, Aubrey Rowe, Rachel Sunday, and Josh Sunday for making the USA Water Polo North East Zone teams! Callan made the NE zone women's Youth team. She will be going to the National tryouts in Sacramento CA over Memorial Day weekend. Aubrey made the NE zone women's Junior team and will be traveling to Salt Lake City UT for the National tryouts. Rachel Sunday was an alternate for the Junior team. Josh Sunday is traveling with the Premier League on the NE Zone team, and has been back and forth to the west coast. Cumberland Valley will be well represented at the national level with these fine players.

Cumberland Valley Water Polo - September 9, 2004

The CV girls opened their defense as 2003 state champs with a 14-4 win over Governor Mifflin at CVHS. Aubrey Rowe led the Eagles with 5 goals while Emily St.Omer Roy added 3 scores. Also scoring were Anna Leggett, Emily Campbell, Rachel Sunday, Jessica Easter and Callan Rowe. The CV boys split their two.games, winning at Reading 19 to 10 and losing to Governor Mifflin 3 to 11. Sean Casella paced the Eagles with 5 goals, Ricky Ruddock had 4, while Andy Negley, Mike McCormick and Jon Gorski had 3 goals each. Also scoring were Tony Lauro, Jacob Cantrell and Brad DeWalt. Goalie Justin Kassab recored 16 saves. CV hosts the Screaming Eagle Tournament this Weekend at CVHS beginning Friday night at 5:00 and Saturday morning beginning at 8:00.

CV Water Polo Teams Win - September 11, 2004

Cumberland Valley's Mens and Womens Water Polo teams emerged winners in it's inaugural Screamin' Eagle Tournament Friday and Saturday at CVHS. The women swept to a 4-0 record with wins over North Penn (10-2), McDowell (3-1), Villa Maria (8-4) and Wissahickon (11-9). Aubrey Rowe led the way with 12 goals. Players with multiple scores were Callan Rowe (6), Jessica Easter (4), Rachel Sunday (3) and Emily St. Omer Roy (2).Also scoring were Dana Blomquist, Tracy Sutphen, Alexis Cherewka and Anna Leggett. Goalies Kristi Koplin and Kristen Spector combined for 24 saves. The Men defeated Wyoming Valley West (9-4), North Allegheny (13-9), Wissahickon (13-8) and lost to North Penn (7-10). Leading scorers Sean Casella and Brad DeWalt had 11 and 7 goals respectively. Other multiple scorers were Ricky Rudock (5), Andy Negley (4), Mike McCormick (4), Jon Gorski (4), Jake Cantrell (4), and Tony Lauro (2). Goalie Justin Kassab recorded 29 saves.

CV Falls In Beast of the East Tournament - September 17 - 18, 2004

CV Falls In Beast of the East Tournament Cumberland Valley's womens water polo team reeled off 4 convincing wins before falling to champion Erie McDowell 3-5 in the semi-finals of the prestigous Beast of the East Tournament at Wilson HS this weekend. Aubrey Rowe led the Lady Eagles with 15 goals in wins over Lawrenceville Academy (13-6), Villa Maria (10-0), Wyoming Valley West (12-9), Pottsville (10-6) before the McDowell loss. Multiple scorers in the tournament were Emily Campbell, Anna Leggett, Rachel Sunday, Emily St.Omer Roy, Jessica Easter, Callan Rowe, Tracy Sutphen, and Amanda Skonezney. Goalies Kristi Koplin and Kristen Spector combined for 34 saves. Katie Povirk, Kristi Koplin and Aubrey Rowe made the all-tournament team. The CV Boys defeated Wyoming Valley West (9-8) and Pottsville (12-8) before losing to eastern power Greenich HS (1-17). Sean Casella and Tony Lauro led the Eagles with 7 and 5 goals respectively. Also scoring were Mike McCormick, Jon Gorski, Brad DeWalt, Ricky Rudock and goalie Justin Kassab. Kassab recorded 29 tournament saves.

CV Water Polo Teams Win - October 2, 2004

The CV girls water polo team coasted to wins over Souderton (11-5) and Wissahickon (14-9) during the Pottsville tournament. Senior Aubrey Rowe led all scorers with 8 goals, Rachel Sunday added 6 scores, while Emily St. Omer Roy and Callan Rowe added 4 goals each. Also scoring were Emily Campbell and Anna Leggett. Goalie Kristi Koplin recorded 12 saves. The CV boys split with a win over McDowell (5-2) before falling to Cathedral Prep (8-13). Goalie Justin Kassab led the Eagles with 29 saves. Andy Negley and Jon Gorski recorded 3 goals each. Also scoring were Tony Lauro, Sean Casella, Brad Dewalt and Mike McCormick.

CV Water Polo Splits Games - October 12, 2004

Both CV boys and girls split their games this past week. The CV girls beat Pottsville 11-4 and lost to Wilson 8-9. Rachel Sunday led all scorers with 6 goals while Aubrey Rowe scored 3. Also getting goals were Katie Povirk, Anna Leggett, Emily Campbell, Emily St. Omer Roy, Jess Easter and Callan Rowe. Goalie Kristi Koplin recorded 16 saves. The boys also beat Pottsville 11-4 before falling to Wilson 6-13. Sean Casella led the boys with 5 goals while Andy Negley and Ricky Rudock added 3 each. Also scoring were Mike McCormick, Jon Gorski and Brad Dewalt. Goalie Justin Kassab had 23 saves.

CV Girls Water Polo Wins Thriller - October 16, 2004

Down 4-7 after 3 quarters to a tough Erie McDowell team, CV countered with 4th period goals by Emily Campbell and Emily St. Omer Roy before goalie Kristi Koplin connected on an 25 meter shot with .9 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. In the extra stanza Campbell had 2 big defensive plays that led to Aubrey Rowe goals and Koplin had 3 athletic saves to push CV to a 9-7 win. CV also bested Chartiers Valley 11-1 and North Allegheny 13-3. Aubrey Rowe led all scorers with 8 goals while Emily Campbell, Anna Leggett, Rachel Sunday, Callan Rowe, Emily St. Omer Roy, Megan Harrell and Amanda Skonezney had multiple scores. The CV boys played well but fell to Erie McDowell 9-11 and Erie Cathedral Prep 7-11 before beating North Allegheny 6-5. Sean Casella paced the Eagles with 8 goals, while Andy Negley, Mike McCormick, Ricky Rudock, Jon Gorski, Tony Lauro and Brad Dewalt also scored. Goalie Justin Kassab also scored and recorded 18 saves through the tournament.

CV Water Polo Ends Regular Season With Wins - October 22, 2004

The CV Boys secured a chance to make the state playoffs with a 9-6 victory over Pottsville Thursday night. CV will have a play in game Nov. 2 at CVHS to determine the final seed for the Boys State Tournament. On Tuesday the boys played state tournament co-favorite Gov. Mifflin evenly early before falling 5-12. For the week Mike McCormick led the Eagles with 5 goals, while Andy Negley, Tony Lauro, Sean Casella, John Gorski, Brad DeWalt and Ricky Rudock also scored. Goalie Justin Kassab saved 21 shots. The CV girls finished the regular season with 17 wins and 3 losses by downing Gov. Mifflin 16-2 and Pottsville 10-5. Aubrey Rowe paced the girls with 9 goals, while Rachel Sunday chipped in 4 scores. Also scoring were Anna Leggett, Emily Campbell, Jessica Easter, Callan Rowe, Emily St. Omer Roy, Amanda Skonezney and Tracy Sutphen. Goalie Kristi Koplin recorded 17 saves. The CV girls enter the state championship, which is being held at CVHS on Friday Oct. 29 and Sat. Oct. 30, as co-favorites with Wilson and Erie McDowell.

CV Girls Finish 3rd in State Water Polo Championships - October 30, 2004

The Cumberland Valley Girls Water Polo Team's quest for a third straight state championship was derailed in the semi-finals with a tough 6-8 loss to Wilson HS. Co-favorites along with Wilson and eventual state champ Erie McDowell, CV opened with wins over Souderton (14-5) and Wissahickon (16-5) before falling to Wilson in a hard fought semi-final. CV rebounded in the consolation game by frustrating North Penn HS 15-6. Aubrey Rowe led the tournament scoring with 19 goals while Junior lefty Anna Leggett contributed 7 scores. Also scoring were Emily Campbell, Rachel Sunday, Jessica Easter, Katie Povirk, Callan Rowe, Emily St.Omer Roy, and Amanda Skonezney. Senior Goalie Kristi Koplin recorded 41 saves. While disappointed in not winning the title several athletes received All-State recognition. Junior Emily St.Omer Roy was named to the Honorable Mention Team and junior Rachel Sunday to the Third Team. Seniors Kristi Koplin and Katie Povirk received Second Team honors while Aubrey Rowe was named to the First Team and was also honored with the Pennsylvania High School Water Polo State Player of the Year Award. Freshman and sister Callan Rowe was Pennsylvania State Co-Rookie of the Year along with Chelsea Beck of Wilson. Cumberland Valley women's Coach Jeremy Souder received his first Pennsylvania State Coach of the Year honor. The CV boys play Wissahickon Tuesday night at 7:00 to determine the final seed for the boys state tournament held this weekend at CVHS.

CV Boys Water Polo 7th at States - November 6, 2004

After beating Wissahickon 10-3 Tuesday night to advance to the State Water Polo Championships, CV played competitively yet lost all 3 games in a stacked bracket that yielded the 2nd, 3rd & 5th place teams in the state. CV lost to Governor Mifflin 7-9, Souderton 3-5 and Erie Cathedral Prep 8-11 before handling Wyoming Valley West 18-5 in the consolations to finish 7th. Senior Sean Casella led the scoring with 11 goals while classmates Andy Negley, Jacob Cantrell and goalie Justin Kassab had solid defensive efforts. Also scoring were Tony Lauro, Mike McCormick, Negley, Cantrell, Jon Gorski, James Buck, Tyler Prete, Nate Morefield, Brad DeWalt and Ricky Rudock. Kassab finished the tournament with an impressive 61 saves. Andy Negley was named to the All-State Honorable Mention Team, Sean Casella received a Second Team All-State mention and Justin Kassab was rewarded with a First Team All-State selection.
