CV polo teams sweep Muhlenberg

All four CV polo teams went into the water to play polo against Muhlenberg and came out with one thing in common on Tuesday night at the Cumberland Valley natatorium – victories.

The varsity Eagle men defeated Muhlenberg 13-5 and the varsity Lady Eagles won 10-5. With the wins, the men improved their season record to 14-1 and the women move to 8-5.

In the first game of the night, the JV women battled the Lady Mules to a 2-1 half-time score. An early steal in the third quarter by sophomore Alex Bornman and a pass to Emily Kosenske for the score put the Eagle offense in motion as they scored 4 second half goals to win 6-2. Kosenske led the Eagles with 4 goals. Goalies Lauren Skonezney and Alex Smith had three and four saves respectively.

The JV men kept the offensive attack rolling as they defeated the Mules 13-0 in the second game. Just 15 seconds into the game, freshman Garrett Treaster scored an early goal and the Eagles never looked back. Using a four-man scoring attack, freshmen Jeremy Lake scored 6 goals and Matt Zimmerman added three more. Sophomore Kyle Dinger fired in two goals of his own, along with Treaster’s two scores. Goalie Caleb Lintz had three saves.

The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against the Mules on goals by freshman Hannah Sunday and junior Mackenzie Ferry. The Mules answered back with one, before Sunday (1 goal), Heather Miller (1 goal), Shannon Hillery (2 goals), Ferry (3 more goals) scored to put the game away 9-1. The Mules found the net 3 times in the third quarter to pull the score closer at 9-4, before a final goal by Katie McFadden iced the win at 10-4. Ferry led the scoring with her four goals, followed by Sunday and Hillery with two each. Senior keeper McKenzie Graf had seven saves and Skonezney had five.

In the final game of the night, the Eagle men played their entire team and used a balanced offensive and defensive game enroute to victory. The Eagles led at the half 9-3 and scored four more unanswered goals in the third quarter, before the Mules found the net for two late scores in the fourth quarter to end the game at 13-5.Sophomore Chad Schmidt led the scoring with 3 goals, followed by seniors Pat Daley and Josh Deckman and junior Andrew Hamilton, all with two and Todd Shuey, Kenny Milburn, Matt Snyder and Drew Keller each had one.
