The Cumberland
Valley High
School men’s and women’s water polo teams kicked
off their 2008 season by hosting the Screaming Eagle Tournament at the
Cumberland Valley Natatorium this weekend.
The women’s team – the defending state water polo champions
– went 4-1 in tournament play. The Eagles started their tournament off with a
10-4 victory over Wissahickon High
School Friday night. On Saturday morning, they
defeated The Hill School 14-1, and then ran into a tough North Penn squad and
dropped their only game 9-5. The Eagles closed out tournament play with an 11-2
defeat of North Allegheny High School
and an 11-4 victory over Mechanicsburg. The Eagles were led by junior Mackenzie
Ferry who scored 16 goals and racked up nine assists. Freshman Hannah Sunday
scored eight goals.
On the men’s side, the Eagles looked strong in the water as
they went 5-0 in tournament play. On Friday, the Eagles scored victory number
one with a 12-4 defeat of Wissahickon. Early Saturday morning, the Eagles took down
the defending state champions in North Penn 15-8 and followed that win with
three more: 7-2 over North Allegheny,
14-1 over St. Piux Catholic High School in Atlanta, Georgia,
and 9-8 over Mechanicsburg. The Eagles were led by Senior Pat Daley with 13
goals and 5 assists. Senior goalie Adam Wenner
tallied 7 assists and junior Andrew Hamilton added 11 goals.
